Marine corrosion in all its glory

I fell in love with the beautiful decaying hulks in this old boatyard. The colours and textures are quite inspirational. The fantastic natural light enhanced the quality of the photographs. Even as a child I was fascinated by ships and boats - especially wrecks.

Atmospheric

The sky showing through the rotted carcass of this ship really adds to the sense of decay. It's skin is falling away, exposing the ribs, but there is still a certain beauty to it's decrepitude. Given it's awful state, it was a credit to it's builders that anything still survived.

Abstract Art

I love this image, it reminds me of an abstract painting. The fading, flaking paint, rust stains from the nails, and decaying timbers have created an intricate layered surface. The diagonals from the planking and painted lines give the image added dynamism.
